Prof. Yixin Zhong

Prof. Yixin Zhong is Prof. in School of Information Engineering, Beijing University of Post and Telecommunication (BUPT), former vice president of BUPT, visiting scholar in Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of London 1979-1981. Research fields: Communication theory, information theory, artificial intelligence, artificial neural network, decision science, information economics. Published 16 books and more than 380 papers in the above fields, for example: “Information Science Principles”(1988,1996), “Information Technology”(1994), “Intelligence Theory and Technology—Artificial Intelligence and Neural Network”(1992), etc. His main academic innovative contribution includes “Knowledge theory”, “Whole Information Theory”, “The Information science principle and information science methodology ”, “The basic structure theoretical model of information”, etc. The current research interests include the whole theory of information, knowledge and intelligence, natural language understanding,, advanced intelligent system, advanced intelligent system in Internet, and so on.

Prof. Zhong has got many awards from the State Council, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and Technology, China. He was awarded Outstanding International Leadership by International Neural Network Society in 1994. His name has also be indexed in American Biography Institute (ABI) and International Biography Centre (IBC).

Prof. Zhong is now Chairman of Chinese Association of Artificial Intelligence, Chairman of Chinese Association of Artificial Neural Network, and Chairman of Chinese Association of Natural Language Understanding.

Professor Zhiwei Feng

Prof. Feng Zhiwei, born in Kunming, Yunnan province, April 15, 1939, computational linguists, dedicated to the interdisciplinary study on linguistics and computer science. He studied in the Graduate School of Peking University and the China University of Science and Technology, receiving double degrees of Master. Later in 1978, he went to Université Scientifique, Technologique et Médicale de Grenoble (l’USTMG, France) and studied in Centre d’Etude pour la Tradiction Automatique (CETA) of Institut de Mathematique Appliquée de Grenoble (IMAG) under famous French mathematician Bernard Vauquois, chairman of the International Committee on Computational Linguistics (ICCL), specializing in mathematical linguistics and machine translation. Feng Zhiwei developed the world's first machine translation system from Chinese language to several foreign languages (FAJRA) in CETA. When he returned to China in 1981, he became the leader of machine translation research group in Institute of Scientific and Technical of China (ISTIC). In 1985 he was transferred to the State Language Committee (SLC), as director of the Section of Computational Linguistics. During 1986-1988, he was in the Institute of New Information Technology and Communication System, Fraunhofer Gesellschaft (FhG, Germany), as visiting research fellow, developed the world's first Chinese terminology database GLOT-C. During 1990-1993, he was the visiting professor of Universität Trier in Germany (Fachbereich-II) for three years. In 1996, he worked as technical advisor in Centrum für internationale Terminologie und angewandte Linguistik (CiTaL), Fachhochschule Konstanz in Germany. From October 1999 to August 2000, he went to Universität Trier in Germany (Fachbereich-II) again as a visiting professor. From August 2000 to August 2001, he served in the Sangxia Institute of natural language processing as a senior fellow. From September 2001 to August 2004, he was in the department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (EECS) at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) as a visiting professor, teaching "natural language processing technology" (NLP-II) doctoral programs. Now he is a research fellow at the Institute of Applied Linguistics, Ministry of Education (IAL-MOE), and a member of the Academic Committee of IAL-MOE.

In China, he is vice chairman of the Association for modernization of Chinese Language, council member of China Artificial Intelligence Association, assessment member of China Social Science Foundation (linguistics branch), assessment member of China Natural Science Foundation (Information Science branch), assessment member of Beijing Natural Science Foundation (Computer Science branch), member of Committee for Standardization of Language and Script attached to the State Language Commission, member of China National Committee for Terms in Sciences and Technologies (CNCTST), Editorial Board member of core Journals "Chinese Language" (zhongguo yuwen) "Applied Linguistics" (Yuyan Wenzi Yingyong) "China Terminology" (Zhongguo keji shuyu) "Language Science" (Yuyan Kexue). He is the part-time professor of Peking University, Zhejiang University, Heilongjiang University and Communication University of China. He is member of Academic Committee of Key National Laboratory of Pattern Recognition, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NLPR-CAS).

At the international level, He is the member of Advisory Board of TELRI (Trans-European Language Resources Infrastructure), the member of International Advisory Committee of the First, Second and Third LREC (Language Resources and Evaluation Conference), the member of editorial board of IJCL (International Journal of Corpus Linguistics), IJCC (International Journal of Chinese and Computing). He is also the member of editorial board of the series "Corpus research and Discourse”, Continuum Publishing Company.

Prof. Dr. Shaohua Tan

Prof. Tan got his Ph. D. from Leuven University, Belgium and is IEEE senior member. He is now Professor in Center for Information Science, National Key Laboratory of Visual and Audio Information Processing, Peking University. He supervises Ph. D. students and teaches course ”Artificial Intelligence” for undergraduate and graduate students. He has published more than SCI-indexed 30 papers and more than 60 EI-indexed papers. His research interest is mainly intelligent information processing. He is active in professional activities and has been program chairman for several international conferences. His research projects include: “Automatic navigation and knowledge acquirements theory and methods based on multi-data” funded by Natural Science Foundation China, “Procedural neural network algorithms and application research based on extra large database”, national key projects “intelligent company value analysis system”, etc.

Prof. Dr. Chengqing Zong

In March 1998, Chengqing Zong received his Ph.D. degree from the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). From May 1998 to April 2000, he worked at the National Laboratory of Pattern Recognition (NLPR), Institute of Automation, CAS, as a post-doctoral research fellow, and he has been working with NLPR since finishing his post-doctoral program. Now he is a professor and the deputy director of NLPR.

Dr. Zong was invited as a Guest Research Scientist at the Laboratory of Spoken Language Translation, Advanced Telecommunications Research Laboratories International (ATR-SLT) in Japan in 1999 and 2001, and as a Visiting Scholar at GETA (the Groupe d'Étude pour la Traduction Automatique in Communication Langagière et Interaction Personne-Système) in France in 2004.

His main research interests are machine translation, spoken language parsing, and human-computer dialogue system etc. As a principal he has undertaken 6 projects sponsored by Natural Science Foundation of China, and the High-Tech. Program (863) of China. He has also been actively involved in some international research collaboration projects. He has published more than 30 papers in the recent years, including in journals IEEE Transactions on Audio, Speech, and Language Processing and Machine Translation. He is also granted several patents of China. Now he serves on the human-computer interaction committee in the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP), Consortium for Speech Translation Advanced Research International (C-STAR), and the editing board of academic journal, Journal of Chinese Language and Computing etc. He is also a specially invited academic consultant and guest professor at Tsinghua University, guest professor at Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, standing member of the Chinese Association of Artificial Intelligence, standing member of the Society of Chinese Information Processing, and program committee co-chair of the IEEE International Conference on Natural Language Processing and Knowledge Engineering (IEEE NLP-KE) 2003 and 2005.

Prof. Jiancheng Wan

Prof. Wan was a visiting scholar in Department of computing science, University of Aberdeen, Scotland, and now is a professor in School of Computer Science and Technology, Shandong University. His main research interests include software engineering, software architecture, intelligent software development, artificial intelligence, natural language processing. He has published more than 40 papers in international journals in these fields. His Chinese Binary Combinatorial Grammar model is innovative.

Prof. Wan has leaded many national key projects and cooperation projects with companies in the field of Chinese natural language processing, intelligent software development method and platform, company ERP, intelligent information management system, CPC, etc. He has won awards form the Province Shandong.

Prof. Dr. Xiaodong Shi

Prof. Shi got his Ph. D. in computer science from Guofang Technology University in Province Hunan and is now Professor and Director, Institute of Artificial Intelligence, Xiamen University. He has taken part in the national key research projects (863, 973) of machines translation since 1988 as a master student. The Matrix system for English-Chinese translation was designed and implemented by him and has won 3 times the number one or two position in national machines translation competition in the 1990s. In 1999 he built the first website for English-Chinese translation. His Research interest is mainly statistical machine translation.

Prof. Dr. Quan Zhang

Prof. Zhang got his Ph. D. from Institute of Acoustics, Chinese Academy of Sciences and now is a professor there. His research interests include Chinese natural language processing based on Hieratical Network Concept (HNC) theory which is invented by Prof. Zengyang Huang, knowledge representation, acquirement and processing of natural language, machine translation, human-computer interaction.

Prof. Zhang has taken part in and led several national key projects (863,973) such as: Chinese language information processing and application, Audio, visual and natural language understanding and data mining, human-machine dialog system, etc. He has published more than 20 papers in NLP and is also a patent holder of a Chinese language processing technology.

Prof. Dr. Ronghuai Huang

Dr. Ronghuai Huang is a professor and Dean of School of Educational Technology of Beijing Normal University (BNU), in which educational technology is one of the National Key Subjects, and Director of R&D Center for Knowledge Engineering, which is dedicated to syncretizing artificial intelligence and human learning (http://ksei.bnu.edu.cn/).

Dr. Huang is visionary and active in the field of exploring how to improve human learning by developing new tools and utilizing new method innovatively, especially collaboratively learning and its supporting software. He holds a Science Master from Department of Mathematics (1988) and a Ph. D from School of Information Science (2000), both in BNU. He had been engaged in teaching mathematical course as well as developing computer software for 8 years since 1988, and then turned to studying educational technology.

Dr. Huang has been engaged in the research on educational technology as well as knowledge engineering since 1997. He has accomplished or is working on over 30 projects, including those of key science and technology projects to be tackled in the national “Ninth Five-year Plan” and “Tenth Five-year Plan” and the projects in the national 863 plan as well as others financed by government. He has published more than 80 academic papers and 20 books.

Dr. Huang is a frequent speaker and participates in many top China academic committees and organizations in the field of educational technology, e-Learning, teacher education, learning sciences, and so on. He is co-chair of the program committee of the 6th and 8th Global Chinese Conference on Computers in Education, and the chair of organizing committee of International Conference on Computers in Education (ICCE2006),the 10th IASTED International Conference on Computers and Advanced Technology in Education (CATE2007) and the 5th International Conference on Wireless, Mobile and Ubiquitous Technologies in Education (WMUTE2008).

Prof. Dr. Jianping Zhang

Prof. Zhang got his Ph. D. in Computer Science from Beijing Jiaotong University and is now professor and dean in School of Education, Director of Center for Modern Educational Technology, Zhejiang Normal University. His main research interests include: the application of information technology in education, educational information management system, informational technology education. He has been manager of several national and provincial key projects such as: intelligent hypermedia distance instruction system, instructional design supported by information technology. He has published more than 50 papers, 10 monographs and textbooks about educational technology, information technology application in education, and so on. He has also taken part in the editing of the information education standard for middle school students by Ministry of Education.

Prof. Zhang has won many awards from Zhejing Province. He is also core member of national information education standard for middle school students by Ministry of Education, deputy chairman of CBE (Computer Based Education) committee of Chinese Artificial Intelligence Association.

Prof. Jianxiang Lin

Prof. Lin was former director of Institute of Computer Science, Peking University, Professor in Department of Educational Technology. He has been leader of many national key projects such as projects from Natural Science Foundation. His current research interest is Chinese learning system based on mobile technology.

Prof. Dr. Guangzuo Cui

Cui Guangzuo is a professor at Peking University. He received the PhD from Harbin Institute of Technology in 1997. His research interests include Semantic Web, Artificial Intelligence, Computational Metaphysics, Computational Education and Intelligent Education.

Prof. Dr. Guanwei Huang

Professor for innovation management and business computing in Chinese-German School for Postgraduate Studies (CDHK), Tongji University. Prof. Huang got his Ph.D. from the University of Paderborn in 2004, sponsored by China Scholarship Council of Ministry of Education and Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation, Germany.

Associate Prof. Dr. Yihong Rong

Dr. Yihong Rong is an associate Prof. in School of Information Engineering at Capital Normal University. She got her Ph.D in Library and Information Management from Peking University in 2003 and her MA in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics from Harbin Institute of Technology in 1996. Her current research interests are Information Retrieval (IR), Information Searching Skills and Life-long Learning, Website Information Architecture & E-Commerce.

Dr. Yunqing Xia

Dr. Xia is research assistant professor within Center of Speech Technology at Tsinghua University. He was a former postdoc research fellow within the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, under investigation of Prof. Kam-Fai WONG. He was also former postdoc research fellow within NLP Research Group in Department of Computer Science at the University of Sheffield, UK. The principal investigator was Prof. Yorick Wilks. His research Interests include Machine Learning and Text Processing (Text classification, text clustering, text mining, email categorization), Computational Linguistics (Sentiment analysis and opinion mining, concept extraction, domain ontology learning), Statistical Natural Language Processing (Language modeling, chat language modelling and normalization).

His Current Projects include cross-media Conceptual Information Retrieval, Opinion Mining from Online Reviews, and Extraction and Normalization of Chat Language Terms. He has also taken part in: Email Categorisation, Summarisation and Prioritisation, Extraction and Normalization of Natural Language Temporal & Spatial Expressions, FASiL - Flexible and Adaptive Spoken Language and multi-modal Interfaces, TERN – Temporal Expression Recognition and Normalization, HATM - Heuristic Analogous Translation Mechanism, IHSMT - Intelligent Hybrid Stragegy Machine Translation system, Spoken Language Machine Translation System, IAT - Intelligent Machine Aided Translation.

Associate Prof. Dr. Jiyou Jia

Dr. Jia got his PhD from Institute for Interdisciplinary Informatics, University of Augsburg, Germany, sponsored by China Scholarship Council of Ministry of Education and Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation, Germany, and supervised by Prof. Dr. Klaus Mainzer. His dissertation is: Human-Computer-Communication with Natural Language in Computer Supported Teaching and Instruction Systems: Problems and Solutions. He is now associate Professor in Department of Educational Technology, Peking University and teaches courses for graduate students: Education, Educational Technology and Artificial Intelligence; Emerging Technologies for Education.

His research Interests include Educational Technology, Information Education, Artificial Intelligence (Natural Language Processing, Neural Network, Intelligent Agent, Knowledge Engineering). He has taken part in several national key projects.

Dr. Jia is the founder of a famous and popular English learning website WWW.CSIEC.COM, which applies natural language processing technology in English education.
